Why not everything can be free
We'd rather be honest
When a messaging service is "completely free", you are almost always the product: it's paid for with your attention (ads) or your data (profiling and selling). LOOKLOCK exists for the exact opposite, so that path is ruled out. And if we don't sell ads or data, someone has to sustain what costs money.
There are real costs
Running the network has bills: servers, storage and bandwidth, the domain and certificates, sending SMS, anchoring on the blockchain and, above all, development and maintenance time. They are not free for us, however much we'd like them to be.
The deal: the essentials free, the resource-heavy extras at a fair price
Private messaging — the heart of the project — is and will remain free for personal use. Whatever has a direct cost per use (SMS, blockchain certification, managed backups) and business accounts carry a fair price that covers that expense, no more. That revenue from the professional plans, together with those who contribute a node, keeps the base free for everyone. We'd rather charge for what genuinely costs money than charge you with your privacy.
