A club, not a public app
We all want to be somewhere that breathes freedom. LOOKLOCK is a club: you only get in if a member sponsors you with an invitation code. Each member has 5 codes to give access to whoever they choose.
End-to-end encryption
Messages and files encrypted on your device with ECIES (P-256 + AES-GCM, with the key derived via HKDF-SHA256 and the ephemeral key bound as AAD). Only the recipient can read them.
Security verification
Check with a safety number, computed on your phone from both public keys, that you're talking to who you think. Compare it by QR or out loud; it warns you if a contact's key changes. Anti-impersonation (MITM).
One app, features by your account
There's no "personal" app and a separate "business" one: it's the same application and the same download. Professional features (customizing the app with your company logo, centralized administration…) are enabled by your account type. Privacy is identical for everyone.
Zero-knowledge
The server does not store conversations, and nodes only hold sealed envelopes: they cannot read your messages or files.
Rooms and groups
Group chats encrypted via sender fan-out (no room key). Owner-only invites; nobody sneaks in.
Disappearing messages
Per-conversation self-destruct: after read, 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days. They delete themselves on the server and devices.
Urgent messages
Mark a message as urgent: it's highlighted in red with an icon and alerts with a distinct sound and vibration on arrival.
Blockchain certification
Certify a conversation (encrypted AND original at once, with hour range and a hash of each file) on the Stellar blockchain: a PDF signed by looklock.chat, public verification at /verify, available to participants in the app or by email.
Pinned messages
Pin important messages: they are kept even if all others are deleted or temporary ones expire.
Local search
Search within a conversation by the already-decrypted text, on your device.
Reply and react
Reply quoting a specific message and react with emojis, like modern messaging apps.
Node network (bring your own node)
Choose where your files are stored: the default node, your own, or a different one per conversation.
Invite-only registration
The first users join freely; after that, invite-only. Everyone gets invitations to give access.
Encrypted files and private storage
Send files up to 5 MB (images, pdf, audio, video, zip). Stored in the app's private vault; you can move them to Downloads.
Avatars
Profile picture for users and rooms, in the project's black-and-white style.
QR code
Share your code or invitations as a QR: scan with the camera to add you or sign up.
Screenshot protection
The app blocks screenshots and screen recording, and hides its content in the app switcher.
PIN lock and auto-lock
Protect the app with a PIN. It locks itself after inactivity or when returning from the background.
Panic PIN
Set a second, duress PIN: entering it opens the app but it appears to have no conversations and you cannot contact anyone. Everything returns to normal when you restart with your correct PIN. It is 100% local: nobody on the outside can tell.
Decoy screen (anti-spy)
In a chat, three taps in the center instantly cover the screen with a harmless image (a default weather page, or one you choose). Three more remove it. Against prying eyes.
Normal, secondary and protected chats
Classify each chat: secondary ones don't appear in the main list, and protected ones stay hidden until you unlock them with your fingerprint or PIN. The classification is local to the device and never travels to the server.
Parallel threads (A/B conversation)
With the same contact you can open a second, discreet conversation running in parallel: everyday chat on one side and, on the other, a separate thread protected behind your fingerprint or PIN. Perfect for a surprise you don't want seen over your shoulder.
Google-free notifications
New-message alerts via our own foreground service, with no Firebase or Google dependencies. Optional; never shows the content.
Retention and precise time
You decide how long the server keeps your messages. Each message shows its exact time (with seconds).
Multi-language
Interface available in Spanish and English.
