A club, not a public app

We all want to be somewhere that breathes freedom. LOOKLOCK CHAT is a club: you only get in if a member sponsors you with an invitation code. Each member has 5 codes to give access to whoever they choose, based on the theory of «six degrees of separation» between all human beings.

End-to-end encryption

Messages and files encrypted on your device with ECIES (P-256 + AES-GCM, with the key derived via HKDF-SHA256 and the ephemeral key bound as AAD). Only the recipient can read them.

Security verification

Check with a safety number, computed on your phone from both public keys, that you're talking to who you think. Compare it by QR or out loud; it warns you if a contact's key changes. Anti-impersonation (MITM).

One app, features by your account

There's no "personal" app and a separate "business" one: it's the same application and the same download. Professional features (customizing the app with your company logo, centralized administration…) are enabled by your account type. Privacy is identical for everyone.

Zero-knowledge

The server does not store conversations, and nodes only hold sealed envelopes: they cannot read your messages or files.

Disposable email

Throwaway addresses on looklock.de for signing up where you would rather not leave your own. They receive for 15 minutes and then vanish: the address, the messages, everything. Created and read from your dashboard on the web, without leaving LOOKLOCK CHAT.

Rooms and groups

Group chats encrypted via sender fan-out (no room key). Owner-only invites; nobody sneaks in.

Disappearing messages

Per-conversation self-destruct: after read, 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days. They delete themselves on the server and devices.

Urgent messages

Mark a message as urgent: it's highlighted in red with an icon and alerts with a distinct sound and vibration on arrival.

Blockchain certification

Certify a conversation (encrypted AND original at once, with hour range and a hash of each file) on the Stellar blockchain: a PDF signed by looklock.chat, public verification at /verify, available to participants in the app or by email.

Pinned messages

Pin important messages: they are kept even if all others are deleted or temporary ones expire.

Local search

Search within a conversation by the already-decrypted text, on your device.

Reply and react

Reply quoting a specific message and react with emojis, like modern messaging apps.

Node network (bring your own node)

Choose where your files are stored: the default node, your own, or a different one per conversation.

Invite-only registration

The first users join freely; after that, invite-only. Everyone gets invitations to give access.

Encrypted files and private storage

Send files up to 5 MB (images, pdf, audio, video, zip). Videos are compressed on your phone to fit, up to about a minute and a half. Stored in the app's private vault; you can move them to Downloads. You can also send them from other apps (gallery, Chrome, Google Images) with Share → LOOKLOCK CHAT.

Backup (keys + messages)

Keep an encrypted backup of your keys and conversations with a passphrase only you know (not even we can read it). You can keep it on our servers or move it to your own node. Paid service coming soon (Stripe).

Frase de recuperación

Al registrarte —en la app o en la web— te damos doce palabras. Son lo único que puede abrir tu copia de seguridad: ni nosotros podemos. Antes se pedía el día de hacer la primera copia, así que quien nunca entraba en esa pantalla no tenía frase —y por tanto no tenía copia, que es justo lo que hace falta el día que se pierde el teléfono, cuando ya no se puede hacer nada—. Puedes cambiarla por una tuya, y puedes dejarlo para luego: no te cerramos el paso, te lo recordamos. La frase no sale de tu aparato: se genera en tu teléfono o en tu navegador y no se envía; lo único que sube es un cálculo que solo sirve para avisarte si la escribes mal, y con él no se abre nada. Por eso, si la pierdes, no hay a quién pedírsela.

QR code

Share your code or invitations as a QR: scan with the camera to add you or sign up.

Screenshot protection

The app blocks screenshots and screen recording, and hides its content in the app switcher.

PIN lock and auto-lock

Protect the app with a PIN. It locks itself after inactivity or when returning from the background.

Panic PIN

Set a second, duress PIN: entering it opens the app but it appears to have no conversations and you cannot contact anyone. Everything returns to normal when you restart with your correct PIN. It is 100% local: nobody on the outside can tell.

Solicitudes de admisión

Quien no ha hablado nunca contigo no entra directo: su conversación queda esperando tu visto bueno. En Solicitudes ves quién es antes de decidir —nombre, apodo, código, correo, antigüedad de la cuenta, nodos que aporta y sus cuatro estrellas de confianza— y aceptas o rechazas. Rechazar bloquea, y no se le avisa. Dos cosas no se enseñan y lo decimos claro: su teléfono entero nunca (solo las tres últimas cifras y si está verificado: nos lo dio para verificarse, no para dárselo a otro), y lo que te haya escrito tampoco, porque va cifrado y ni nuestro servidor puede leerlo.

Nivel de confianza: cuatro estrellas

Antes de hablar con un desconocido ves cuatro estrellas delante de su código: teléfono verificado, antigüedad de la cuenta, uso de los tres meses anteriores y cuánta gente le ha bloqueado. Las tres primeras dependen de él; la cuarta la deciden los demás, y es la única que recoge lo que ha pasado cuando alguien habló con él. Un bloqueo o dos no marcan a nadie, porque es lo más corriente del mundo; y cuenta una vez por persona, así que nadie puede hundir a otro él solo. Del rojo (confianza mínima) al verde (máxima), cinco niveles. La tercera es la que no se puede fingir el día que hace falta: exige haber estado ahí antes. Una estrella hueca y gris significa que aún no hay datos de ese aspecto, no que sea mala: preferimos decir «no lo sé» antes que señalar a alguien por una cuenta recién abierta.

Verificación de teléfono por WhatsApp

Verificas tu número mandando un mensaje de WhatsApp desde tu móvil: el botón lo abre con el texto ya escrito y solo tienes que enviarlo. El destinatario es un número de Impactware Logic SL, nuestra empresa —en WhatsApp verás una cuenta con ese nombre, no «LOOKLOCK CHAT»: lo comparten varias aplicaciones nuestras—. No recibes ningún SMS ni das tu número a nadie más. Al verificarlo, tu código de usuario pasa a verde y tu primera estrella de confianza sube. Un número solo puede estar en una cuenta.

Decoy screen (anti-spy)

In a chat, three taps in the center instantly cover the screen with a harmless image (a default weather page, or one you choose). Three more remove it. Against prying eyes.

Two channels with each contact

Every conversation has two channels, Open and Protected, like in some accounting. The Protected one opens with your fingerprint.

Parallel threads (A/B conversation)

With the same contact you can open a second, discreet conversation running in parallel: everyday chat on one side and, on the other, a separate thread protected behind your fingerprint or PIN. Perfect for a surprise you don't want seen over your shoulder.

Retention and precise time

You decide how long the server keeps your messages. Each message shows its exact time (with seconds).

Multi-language

Interface available in Spanish and English.

API para otros sistemas

Una empresa verificada puede integrar LOOKLOCK CHAT en su propio sistema: consultar un código de usuario y enviarle un mensaje. Con una diferencia que casi ninguna API de mensajería tiene: cifra el cliente, no nosotros, así que al servidor llega un sobre que no puede abrir. El primer mensaje llega como propuesta y la persona decide si lo acepta, igual que con cualquier otro contacto. Documentación de la API.
